Vinyl Painting TipsUpdated 10 months ago

At Monument Shutters, we offer high-quality vinyl shutters in 16 factory color options. Our exclusive color molded-in process ensures that our pre-colored shutters maintain their beauty without painting. However, we understand that some customers may wish to personalize their shutters with custom colors. For this purpose, we offer special paintable units made from a unique material specifically designed to hold paint effectively.

While our Limited Lifetime Warranty fully applies when work is completed by Monument Shutters professionals, we understand some customers may choose to paint their shutters themselves.

If you decide to undertake this project, follow these tips for the best results:

  1. Choose the Right Paint: Consult your local paint supply store for high-quality, vinyl-safe, 100% acrylic paint. The professionals at these stores can recommend the best products for your specific area and conditions.
  2. Clean Thoroughly: Remove all dirt and grime using a mild detergent and water. Make sure to rinse and dry completely.
  3. Prepare the Surface: Lightly sand the shutters, wipe away dust with a damp cloth, and allow them to dry.
  4. Prime for Success: Use a high-quality primer designed for vinyl surfaces. Apply evenly and let it dry.
  5. Apply the Paint: Follow paint label instructions, applying thin, even coats and allowing each to dry completely.
  6. Let it Cure: Allow the paint to cure fully before installing the shutters.
