Composite ShuttersUpdated a month ago
Monument Shutters proudly manufactures our composite shutters using Armorite® Exterior MDF, an advanced material engineered specifically for demanding exterior applications.
Unlike traditional MDF products designed only for interior use, Armorite® Exterior MDF is built to perform in outdoor environments. It is manufactured from Western softwood fibers and formulated with a formaldehyde-free resin system, creating a durable, stable panel that resists moisture, rot, decay, and insects. This makes it an excellent material for exterior architectural components such as raised panels and shutters.
Armorite® is engineered to withstand harsh conditions and high-humidity environments while maintaining consistent density and strength. Its uniform fiber structure allows for clean machining, smooth profiling, and reliable fastening, making it an ideal material for precision shutter components and detailed millwork.
Appearance and Finish
Armorite® panels are designed as a paint-grade material. They accept primer and paint exceptionally well, allowing for a durable finish that complements your home’s exterior. Because Armorite® is an engineered wood product, its surface characteristics differ from natural hardwood and are optimized for long-lasting painted finishes rather than stained wood applications.
Performance and Durability
Armorite® Exterior MDF is tested for exterior performance and designed for above-ground exterior applications. When properly finished and installed, Armorite® delivers long-term stability and reliable performance in outdoor environments.
At Monument Shutters, we use Armorite® because it provides the strength, consistency, and durability needed for high-quality exterior shutters. The result is a product that combines precise craftsmanship with a material engineered to withstand the elements.
